SCORE Maine is the official presenter of two annual educational programs that provide tax preparers, enrolled agents, CPAs and legal professionals with updated information about annual changes in Maine and Federal tax laws. The Tax Practitioner Institute (TPI) and the Maine Tax Forum (MTF) both provide continuing education credits. CPE and CLE credits are available.
CPAs – The Maine Board of Accountancy does not pre-approve Continuing Education credits. Historically, the Maine Tax Forum sessions have been recognized; 18 sessions are offered this year. Click here to review the Board of Accountancy rules.
ATTORNEYS – The Maine Overseers of the Bar has approved the 2019 program for 13.5 CLE credits, including 1 credit for ethics.
ENROLLED AGENTS AND TAX PREPARERS – The Maine Tax Forum is an IRS approved Continuing Education Provider. For 2019 the IRS has approved 16 credits for the two-day program. Day one includes 3 credits for Federal Tax Law and 5 credits for Federal Tax Law Updates. The second day includes 7 credits for Federal Tax Law Updates and 1 credit for Ethics.
On July 1, 2014, the IRS launched the new Annual Filing Season Program, (“AFSP”). This voluntary program applies to non-exempt tax preparers only. When all requirements are met with regard to AFSP, a Record of Completion will be issued to the tax return preparer by the IRS.
