SCORE Maine is the official presenter of two annual educational programs that provide tax preparers, enrolled agents, CPAs and legal professionals with updated information about annual changes in Maine and Federal tax laws. The Tax Practitioner Institute (TPI) and the Maine Tax Forum (MTF) both provide continuing education credits. CPE and CLE credits are available.
CPAs – The Maine Board of Accountancy does not certify education providers or pre-approve any courses for continuing education credits. In the past, the Maine Tax Practitioner Institute programs have been accepted by the Board for continuing education credits. Click here to review the Board of Accountancy rules. Eight sessions, including six (6) sessions on tax law and updates and two (2) on ethics are offered.
ATTORNEYS – The Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar has approved the 2016 Tax Practitioner Institute program for 6.66 CLE credits, including .83 Ethics credits.
TAX PROFESSIONALS – The Maine Tax Practitioner Institute is an IRS approved Continuing Education Provider. The IRS has approved the 2016 program for CE credits of 5 for Federal Tax Law, 2 for Federal Tax Law Updates and 1 for Ethics.
IRS CREDITS FOR TAX RETURN PREPARERS – On July 1, 2014, the IRS launched the new Annual Filing Season Program, (“AFSP”). If all requirements are met with regard to AFSP, a Record of Completion will be issued to the tax return preparer by the IRS.
