Workshops for 2013

WE ARE APPROVED FOR 2013 AS IRS CONTINUING EDUCATION PROVIDER

• The Maine Tax Practitioner Institute has been approved as an IRS Continuing Education Provider for 2013. Tax Preparers should always look for IRS approved providers when fulfilling their continuing education requirements.

WORKSHOP PROGRAM FOR 2013

• CONTENT - As with previous workshops we will offer the same programs at each location. Each workshop will run from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

• WORKBOOK - Each attendee will receive a copy of the Federal Tax Workbook series published by The University of Illinois.

• CREDIT HOURS - Attendees will be awarded eight IRS credit hours.

• FEDERAL TAXATION - Our speakers will be presenting topics relating to Federal tax issues and tax law updates..

• MAINE TAX ISSUES - State tax issues will be included this year and our experts will be discussing recent changes.

• ETHICS - Includes two hours on the subject of ethics or professional conduct.


CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

• ATTORNEYS - Approved by The Maine Overseers of the Bar for continuing legal education credits.

• CPAs - The Maine Board of Accountancy does not certify education providers or pre-approve any courses for continuing education credits. In the past, however, the Tax Practitioner Institute's programs have been accepted by the Board for continuing education credits.    Click here to download the Board of Accountancy rules

• TAX PROFESSIONALS - Approved for 8 IRS continuing education credits. We will upload your IRS continuing education information to the IRS at the completion of your workshop

• IRS CREDITS FOR RTRPs - It is currently voluntary for RTRPs to attend continuing education workshops but if they do attend we are allowed to provide and upload to the IRS any CE credits they earn from our workshops in the same manner that we do for other categories of IRS registered tax professionals.

• IRS LEGAL SITUATION FOR RTRPs - As of Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia has enjoined the Internal Revenue Service from enforcing the regulatory requirements for registered tax return preparers. In accordance with this order, tax return preparers covered by this program are not currently required to register with the IRS, to complete competency testing or secure continuing education. The ruling does not affect the regulatory practice requirements for CPAs, attorneys, enrolled agents, enrolled retirement plan agents or enrolled actuaries.

• SCORE MAINE is hosting the 17th Annual Maine Tax Forum, previously organized and hosted by Maine Revenue Services. SCORE is committed to delivering the same high-quality program that participants have grown accustomed to for the past sixteen years.


WHEN & WHERE?

• DATES - Wednesday, November 6 and Thursday, November 7, 2013

• LOCATION - Augusta Civic Center. Adequate seating for the 2013 Maine Tax Forum will be available by using both the Auditorium and North Wing on the second floor of the Civic Center. The live presentations will be projected on screen. Seating in both rooms will be on the basis of first come, first served on each day of the event.

• REGISTRATION – On-line registration is encouraged. Registration will be available starting August 1, 2013 and will close on October 30, 2013.


PROGRAM

• CONTENT - Ethics, Federal Income Tax Developments, Maine Income Tax Developments, Federal & State Income Tax Case Law Developments, New IRS Initiatives, Other topics of current interest.

• WHO SHOULD ATTEND? - Tax professionals, accountants, enrolled agents, CPAs, tax attorneys, financial planners and others who need to keep informed of both existing laws and the annual changes should attend.

• NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES – Enjoy good food and great like-minded company. Mix and mingle, reconnect with friends and colleagues, share information and best practices.


CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

• CPE and CLE credits are available. The number of approved credits will be determined once the program agenda is finalized.
